It's something new for you! Sunday school sessions for churches that start their educational ministries in August!
The Acts of the Apostles tells the exciting story of the birth of the church, and how it spread across the Mediterranean and into the world. It tells the mighty acts of God as manifested in the lives and ministries of the apostles. Some have referred to the book as the Acts of the Holy Spirit, as the Spirit of God we know in Jesus Christ permeates the events that advance the church.
The most prominent figure in Acts is Paul, who, by the author's definition (Acts 1:21-22) is not an apostle at all. Paul-also known as Saul, the persecutor of Christians-had an encounter with the living Christ and witnessed to the resurrection with energy and passion that cannot be missed. Paul taught then-and these stories about him teach us now-that Jesus is alive, and God is at work in the world today.
Through the relationships cultivated by Paul, the churches he helped establish and maintain, the hardships he endured, and the faith he demonstrated, God shows us how to be the church in a world that, although created good, often loses sight of its good purposes.
