Biblical background information helps your leader feel confident teaching the stories of the Bible with children. Also included in the leader’s guide are supply lists, extra activities, and suggestions for adapting activities for children with special needs. This summer you have the opportunity to explore some of the stories of the Old Testament. The theme of God’s faithfulness runs throughout the Bible, in these stories and many others. The great story of the exodus begins with God’s protection of the baby boy Moses. Through the brave and loving acts of midwives, his mother and sister, and even an Egyptian princess, Moses eventually will lead God’s people to freedom. When the people are poised to enter the promised land, they falter, afraid. They let fear overtake God’s faithfulness. At that time, and then again years later after entering the promised land, Joshua stood firm as he chose to serve and love God. God continues to call people to lead God’s people; surprisingly, many are young: Samuel, David, and Jeremiah. Through each of them children hear stories of God’s faithful voice. The message, however, is always the same: God is faithful and will continue to be faithful to God’s people.
Series Description
Growing in Grace & Gratitude is our quarterly denominational curriculum for children ages 3–10. Children see God’s grace in the biblical narrative and in our world today. The curriculum provides age-appropriate opportunities for responses of gratitude through claiming, celebrating, praying and offering. There is diversity in learning as well as support for leaders to adapt lessons for children with special needs. Coloring illustrations accompany each Bible story to engage children visually. Each session will embrace children in the grace of God through engagement with the Bible that echoes reformed worship: gathering in God’s grace, responding in gratitude, and loving and serving God.
