Product Overview
"Communion," "Eucharist," or "Lord's Supper?" Once a month or weekly? Wine or juice? Who is invited? In many congregations one of the easiest ways to start a church fight is to say "let's change the way we do Communion." Many of us have beloved memories and practices of Communion, but it is also true that the Church has celebrated Communion in a variety of ways over time and that there is no one "right" way to do it.
What's often needed is to take a long look at the history of Communion in the Christian tradition. This one-session study illustrates the biblical and historical roots of Communion, what shaped its practice over time, why it became a church-dividing issue, and how questions about Communion continue to cause debate in churches even today. The thoughtful sketch of the issues allows for group conversation around the meaning and practice of Communion in your church community and neighboring churches. A variety of leadership options including sharing food, discussing prompts and questions provided, journaling, and examining a case study are provided in the Leader's Guide.
